Europe through Arab Eyes, 1578-1727 是近年研究伊斯蘭與歐洲關係最重要的專書之一。這本專書的作者是Nabil Matar，任教於明尼蘇達學的英文系和歷史系，相關著作包括British Captives in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic: 1563-1760. Henry Stubbe and the Beginnings of Islam、Through the Eyes of the Beholder: The Holy Land, 1517-1713、 Britain and the Islamic World, 1558-1713、Britain and Barbary: 1589-1689等。 這些作品是研究現代前期伊斯蘭和基督教世界文化交流與衝擊的的佳作，不可不讀。Europe through Arab Eyes, 1578-1727不同於其他著作之處，在於該書不僅有深入淺出的簡介，還囊括了許多重要的文本，不僅可以作為教課書，也可以作為研究文本。 

Europe through Arab Eyes, 1578-1727的簡介部分有一百二十多頁，其中包括伊斯蘭教徒在基督教世界相關文獻的解讀， 研究方法，和派往基督教世界使節的相關資料，當然也包括幾個常見問題的論述，如：為何伊斯蘭世界對西方世界的書寫甚少的原因，俘虜與他者的相關論述，微觀歷史與宏觀歷史的不同角度等，書中所涵蓋的地理範圍包含北非與中東。誠如作者所說，研究伊斯蘭世界和西方世界的文化關係，有時候是心理學的課題。Matar提到，這些文本中，即使許多伊斯蘭教徒被俘虜的經過充滿痛苦和嚴峻的考驗，跨文化認知和友誼也存在於一些實際的案例之中。值得注意的是，Matar的書中涵蓋中東及北非重要的文件譯本二十種，如: 1) “Letters of Radwan al-Janawy on Muslim Captives”、2)“Description of the Defeat of the Armada”、3)“Description of the World”、4)“Battle Accounts”、5）“Falling in Love in Naples”等。
