本篇論文整合跨學門研究理論以及個案研究，結合了動物考古學研究與書面之記載文獻，探討了畜牧業在中古芬蘭之重要性。以往的文獻資料多用來作為佐證動物骨學研究之結果，但近年來這兩種研究方法趨向具有平等之地位，而且結合此兩種方法之研究亦趨為明顯。
 
本文研究重點在於中古芬蘭畜牧業之重要性，尤其著重芬蘭西南方之Turku鎮。本文從不同角度研究牛群、羊群飼養之重要性，在跨學科研究下，更可以了解到山羊與綿羊在城市與農村之不同作用。但是跨學科研究也可能使研究結論產生不一致性，例如，公羊被閹割的時機在不同研究角度之下便產生了不同的答案。
 
儘管同時使用此兩種方法會因其本質之不同而受到某些阻礙，但論文作者認為，若能謹慎結合不同學門之研究方法，跨領域研究仍是有發展的空間。
