A.   簡介 Introduction (within 500 words, Chinese or English) 

由John Connell, Russell King, Paul White 所編的專書Writing Across Worlds: Literature and Migration，自出版以來廣為大學老師用為教科書，事實上，這也是簡介遷徙研究最好的專書之一。Paul White認為在人類所有的經驗裡，地理上的移動是最重要的層面之一。人類的移動涉及他們的原生地、要前往的地方，移動的過程、結果，以及遷徙的心路歷程(1-2)。離散論述的研究風潮未退，由遷徙所演生的議題卻持續增加，negotiating identity, creolization, writing across generation, zones and borders, settlement, displacement 等仍然是研討會中最常出現的主題之一。

運用在現代前期，除了族群遷徙之外，近年常見的主題是商人、外交使節的跨界。Phillip J. Stern所編集的專書Mercantilism Reimagined: Political Economy in Early Modern Britain and Its Empire，就充分展現了主題特色，如殖民與勞工、殖民經濟、海洋空間、跨國競爭、文化交換等。在中世紀和文藝復興時期的敘事文類和戲劇作品中，遷徙是個相當具有可塑性的議題。舉例來說，小範圍的題目如倫敦城內的外國人，範圍較大的題目如：奴役穆斯林和跨洋黑奴的故事、十五世紀被西班牙逐出的the Sephardi Family猶太家族最後落腳於鄂圖曼土耳其帝國、荷蘭的相關敘述、傳記和歷史，亦或遷徙禁令都是最佳研究材料。
