2010年牛津大學出版了The Oxford Handbook of Material Culture Studies，全書長達620頁，內容分成五大區塊：disciplinary perspectives, material practices, objects and humans, landscapes and the built environment, studying particular things，這本大部頭圖書的出版，意味著教科書的市場需求和學術研究的走向。Dan Hicks 和Mary C. Beaudry兩位編輯開宗明義敘述80年代，由考古學者和人類學家引領的物質文化研究，已經來到後考古學和後人類學的時代。無論是研究維多利亞時期的事物，還是不同時代的生活環境都開啟了文化研究新的觸角；常民生活中的物件和生活技巧也成為研究的文本。耶魯大學、劍橋大學、曼徹斯特大學出版了物質文化相關的叢書，以Michelle O'Malley, Evelyn Welch所編輯的The Material Renaissance為例，探討財富與藝術的關連，Evelyn S.
